On Saturday, May 14th, New Leaders Council Progressive Action Initiative (NLC4) will be hosting a policy forum, ‘Building America’s Communities: A Conversation on Inequality and Opportunity in Detroit, MI’. The NLC Detroit Chapter will be co-hosting this special event with the NLC National Leadership Team to focus the conversation on Detroit and around the Midwest about issues of inequality, but highlighting how private investment from individuals, foundation and corporations have had an impact on revitalizing communities that mirror similar conditions that exist in the city of Detroit.
The Building America’s Communities conversation will provide a comparative analysis between local issues and the issues the region and the nation are facing; the conversation will convene local and national leaders and experts to critically analyze the current context of various social justice issues impacting Detroit, greater Michigan, and the Midwest, and propose and share evidence based policy solutions to these challenges. It will be a day of Panel, keynote speakers, and networking to work toward solutions to revitalizing our communities.
Detroit and the Midwest region have under gone a period with much economic turmoil which effects every member of these communities. From access to a quality education to jobs, the Midwest leaders are coming together to voice and change the political pitfalls and reinvest in the community.

New Leaders Council Progressive Action Initiative (NLC4) was founded in 2014 with the intent of being the vehicle to educate, promote, and network promising leaders in progressive community. NLC4 works toward this goal by working with members of our community to conduct research and publicize the results thereof on issues related to the health and welfare of our community. We work to develop and advocate for programs, legislation, regulations, and other social action that will benefit the community. This organization largely consist of alumni of the NLC Institute.
